Laundry in a healthcare facility carries a different kind of risk than laundry anywhere else. Bedding, towels, gowns, and other linen can carry contamination from patients, and a nursing home, hospital, or clinic that gets its laundry process wrong is not just dealing with dingy linen — it is dealing with an infection-control problem. One of the equipment categories we supply for healthcare customers is the barrier, or pass-through, washer-extractor — B&C Technologies builds a Barrier Pass Through Washer Extractor line that ALCO carries specifically for this use. A barrier washer is built into the wall between a facility's soiled linen area and its clean linen area, loaded from the contaminated side and unloaded from the clean side, so soiled and clean linen never share the same room, cart, or hallway. That physical separation is the point: it keeps a facility's dirty-linen handling from ever crossing paths with linen that is ready to go back into use.

Not every healthcare laundry program needs a full barrier-washer build-out — a smaller clinic or an assisted-living facility with lower linen volume may be well served by high-efficiency commercial washer-extractors and tumble dryers without the wall-mounted barrier configuration. What matters is choosing equipment sized to the facility's actual linen volume and washing to the temperatures and cycles the facility's infection-control policy requires. We would rather help a smaller facility get the right-sized standard equipment than sell a barrier system nobody needs, or leave a high-volume facility under-equipped for its actual laundry load.

Isolation linen — bedding and gowns used in rooms under infection-control precautions — is one of the clearest cases for keeping soiled and clean linen handling physically separate, and it is exactly the scenario a barrier washer is built around. Facilities that do not currently separate isolation linen from general linen handling are often the ones that benefit most from evaluating a barrier system, even if the rest of their laundry program stays on standard equipment. We can walk through a facility's actual linen categories with its infection-control or facilities staff to figure out where a barrier washer earns its place and where it does not.

Where a facility's budget is tighter, refurbished equipment can still be the right call; we will tell you honestly which option actually fits your facility rather than defaulting to whichever is easier for us to sell.
